PHILOSOPHY

What is hypermedia?
The literal definition derives from hypertext, i.e. graphics, audio, video, plain text, hyperlinks etc.; colliding to create information. This definition provides that there is no specific answer to what hypermedia should “look like”. As writers, artists, and creative people, this excites us. So what is our philosophy? Our philosophy is to ask questions by publishing work which queries: What is writing? What is art? We want to discover how the presentation choices and processes of writing affect the content being presented and how these choices and processes affect the audience interacting with the work. We want to experiment. We want to dialogue. Join the conversation.

EDITOR'S NOTE:

Concrete poems that follow through? Check. YouTube as art? Check. Reactions, interactions, and expanding contractions? Check. Issue 6.2 comes to you chalk full of hybrid sights and sounds. As far as the taste goes, it’s kind of like Jelly Bellies: they're sometimes popcorn and sometimes fruit punch but you won’t find out if the red one in your hand is cinnamon or cherry till you pop it in your mouth. This issue comes with the guarantee that you'll be pleasantly surprised if you were expecting one but get the other.

Vol 6.2 includes our first installment of BathHouse in Discussion, a new section that features a bantering back and forth of ideas between ourselves and writers and artists. This time around we dialogue with George Legardy whose interactive installation, Cell Tango, was exhibited at EMU for four weeks this past fall. Find out why we were interested in the project and get the heads up on some of the great thinking being done on the USA’s West Coast.

Set down your flavor chart and let your mind be excited by the new combinations created. Until next time…
