PHILOSOPHY
What is hypermedia? The literal definition derives from hypertext, ie: graphics, audio, video, plain text, hyperlinks etc.; colliding to create information. This definition provides that there is no specific answer to what hypermedia should “look like”. As writers, artists, and creative people, this excites us. So what is our philosophy? Our philosophy is to ask questions by publishing work which queries: What is writing? What is art? We want to discover how the presentation choices and processes of writing affect the content being presented and how these choices and processes affect the audience interacting with the work. We want to experiment. We want to dialogue. Join the conversation.
EDITOR'S NOTE: On the Evolution of a Small Press
Vol. 6.1 marks a new beginning for BathHouse as the first issue published through our newly developed website, BHJournal.com. Because no "home" site formerly existed, information which was frequently changed, such as staff contacts and submit guidelines, was located within individual issues. This meant that outdated information was readily available to readers, which put an obstacle in the way of our ability to run smoothly. With the advent of the new site you will notice all such "changeable" information is now located on the main site. We are excited to see what new types of interaction the site will enable us to dream up and hope you will enjoy our ability to post regularly with pieces meant to inspire, connect, and extend opportunites related to language-focused hybrid arts.
You will notice in Vol. 6.1 that artist/poetics statements frequently accompany the work. All readers interact with the work differently and we enjoy providing further context for readers who consider it valuable to their "reading" experience. We also just plain like hyperlinks and creating multiple ways of looking at seemingly singular things.
Vol. 6.1 continues the tradition of presenting work from different geographical areas, and from new as well as established writer/artists.
Succinct but tantalizing, the fresh content promises to inspire you to create in new ways, like lemon Pledge on a Michigan winter's night… Do enjoy.
