Submission Guidelines

We at BathHouse value innovation and hybrid work. As such, we’re open to considering all forms of visual/linguistic art, especially that which blurs the line of traditional forms. Since this is a web-based journal, please limit submissions to 3,000 words or less (unless the form dictates otherwise and is complimented by web presentation).

Please note these required guidelines: All paper submissions must be accompanied by an SASE for return. E-mail text submissions must be sent as Word (.doc or .rtf) attachments. Please include author and file name in the subject heading, as well as the word “submission,” as our spam filter will delete everything else. Hypermedia and digital art submissions can be sent as zip files. Audio pieces must be sent as mp3s. Alternatively, if you provide a link in your email, the editors will view your work on your home website, but please indicate which piece you would like us to consider.

Email submissions are highly preferred and can be sent to: EIC@BHJournal.com

If you wish to submit by mail, send to:

Please include a brief bio and artist/poetics statement with your work.

Reading period: year-round.

Response rate: we strive to respond to all submissions in a timely manor though we often wait to respond until we are preparing an issue (generally twice yearly). If you feel a “timely” manor has elapsed please know there is a legitimate reason and have faith we will eventually respond. If faith/patience are not your strong suits, resend your submission. It is quicker for us to respond to a re-send than a query. Keep in mind we are an “economically staffed” journal. Please notify us if submitted work has been accepted elsewhere. If you do not we will assume it has not been.

Previously published work: we are very unlikely to republish work that has been printed elsewhere, online or in print, except in extreme circumstances. A note MUST be included in submissions stating where and when work has been used prior.

Rights: all work on the main site and within issues is copyright © the original authors. Please do not reprint without permission.

*BathHouse reserves the right to edit submitted bios and artist/poetics statements for grammar and length.
